Polito's
9.0The Story
Finally, let's talk about the most underrated pizza conversation in Oshkosh: Polito's. Good sauce. Excellent sausage. Their sausage may actually be tied for first place. Their Chicken Bacon Ranch pizza is outstanding. And they probably have the best lunch special value in town. The challenge...Polito's is like a dive bar that isn't actually a dive bar. The pizza is better than the environment. I don't really want to sit down and relax there, but I'll absolutely stop in for a slice.

Every city has that one pizza place people overlook because they're paying attention to the wrong things. In Oshkosh, that place is Polito's. If you're judging restaurants by atmosphere alone, Polito's probably isn't going to end up at the top of your list. But if you're judging them by what actually matters once the pizza hits the table...it's a completely different conversation. Let's start with the lunch special. Two giant slices and a drink for around $7. I'm not sure there's a better lunch value in Oshkosh. Then there's the pizza itself. The sauce is exactly what I want from a classic sausage and pepperoni pizza. Savory, balanced, and flavorful without overpowering everything else. The crust is very good, with enough structure to support one of the biggest slices you'll find anywhere. It's foldable, New York-style, and somehow manages to stay consistently good every single time I stop in. Then we get to the sausage. Honestly...Polito's has an argument for the best sausage in the Fox Valley. It's that good. Spicy, flavorful, not too spicy, and the right size for the slices. The toppings are generous, the pepperoni performs exactly the way it should, and every slice feels substantial. The only knock I'd give it is that it can lean a little greasy depending on the day, but that's part of the territory when you're serving oversized slices loaded with toppings. And don't overlook the Chicken Bacon Ranch. It's outstanding. One of the things I appreciate most about Polito's is the ability to order by the slice. Sometimes you don't need an entire pizza. Sometimes you just want one incredible slice for lunch or after work, and Polito's gives you that option without sacrificing quality. Now let's talk about the experience. Polito's sits directly across from a college campus. It's busy. It sees late-night crowds. It serves a lot of people in a short amount of time. If you've ever wondered why it doesn't feel like a polished sit-down restaurant, I'd argue that's almost beside the point. My wife and I haven't bought a new couch yet because we have three kids and a dog. Someday we'll have the nice couch. Today, we have the practical one. Polito's feels a little like that. The focus isn't on creating a polished dining room. The focus is on creating consistently excellent pizza for the people who walk through the door every day. The staff has always been friendly, the service is consistently solid, and one thing becomes obvious the more you visit, they genuinely care about the community they're serving. Polito's ranks #3 in Oshkosh for me, not because the pizza falls short, but because the overall experience doesn't quite rise to the level of the food. The pizza absolutely does. If you're ordering a sausage and pepperoni to go, grabbing the lunch special, or stopping in for a slice, you're getting one of the best sausage-and-pepperoni pizzas in the Fox Valley. Sometimes the best pizza doesn't come from the fanciest room. Sometimes it comes from the place that simply knows how to make an incredible slice.
